Herein you will find that the CV approach alone also will not bring you dividends for the future – it is over IF you find that job, but it will not build your network for finding future opportunities or to grow and learn. This is where the networking and connecting activities in LinkedIn – if used correctly – will take your ability to find a job as an immigrant job seeker to a whole new level. You can only reach a multi-dimensional approach and utilise the strength of it when you use your LinkedIn profile correctly in conjunction with your CV. Without being boosted and bolstered by a proper LinkedIn profile in this competitive world where you will have to compete with dozens of other immigrant job seekers from around the world, it cannot fully showcase your real skills, knowledge, ability, engagement, interest and enthusiasm for your field of interest or industry.īy using a CV alone and scattering it at dozens of job applications at a time, it cannot build networks, relationships, therefore cannot expose you to other strategies like the direct approach strategy or expose you to the hidden job market – where the real opportunities for immigrant job seekers await. It will be like asking someone to give you something (a job) someone who does not know you, cannot validate your qualifications and experience and has no idea about how you can add value to their business. Why does the “scattergun” approach not work? Why would the recruiters or potential employers not look at your CV, let alone reply to your application? Since then I have learned a few more lessons about immigrant job seeking strategies and refined some of them as well. I did everything I could think of: changed the CV layout and format, took some information off, put other information on, had my CV re-written by someone who knew what it was supposed to look like in my destination country and threw it as many job application as I could – nothing worked. I know how hard it can be searching for that crucial job as an immigrant job seeker – I was there about 16 years ago…busting my brains to figure out what I was doing wrong after the hundreds of CV’s I sent to job applications got me nowhere.
